Linea Carta and the Art of Calligraphy

We were thrilled to welcome Diva Pyari, owner of Linea Carta, to Handcraft Studio School for our first calligraphy class. Linea Carta means "paper line" in Italian, and Diva's a true artist when it comes to the use of this simple, everyday material. You can check out her website here, and her Etsy shop here

When they arrived at calligraphy class, each student was greeted by a special a calligraphy kit complete with ink, pen, two nibs, matches, and an alphabet sheet, as well as a folder with practice sheets—everything they need to get started!

Diva was a fantastic teacher for our students, who learned the basics of pointed pen calligraphy during the class. Students diligently practiced the art of calligraphy by moving through the alphabet, practicing each letter in turn.

There's something very meditative about calligraphy work. It takes a lot of concentration, but once students got into the rhythm of creating the letters, a calm atmosphere pervaded the room.

Indeed, it was a rather relaxing and soothing workshop, and a perfect break from the busy days that these class participants experience.

Diva is a master teacher, and offered tips and tricks for working on the craft of calligraphy throughout class. She also made sure to remind everyone to take a break to stretch and get a snack, then go back to practicing.

Amazingly, the three hour workshop passed by in a flash.

Thanks again to Diva and all of the calligraphy students for sharing this lovely afternoon in the sunny studio! Keep checking the workshop schedule, as we will have more classes with Diva coming up soon.
