In this class you will create an embroidery sampler, learning easy and adaptable embroidery stitches. You can then use these stitches to liven up and add individuality to your clothing, bags, towels, pillowcases, anything you can sew on.

Materials included: embroidery hoop, needles, embroidery thread, sampler fabric and embroidery directions.

Kieren Dutcher grew up in Oakland, CA. She studied graphic design at California College of Arts and Crafts, worked as a graphic artist, taught art to children for 20+ years at Berkeley Arts Magnet, Bentley School, East Bay School of the Arts, Black Pine Circle school (upper school art teacher for 20 years), and Camp 510. For the past 18 years or so she has been painting almost exclusively in gouache resist. The first picture book she illustrated, Chinese and English Nursery Rhymes: Stories and Songs to Share, Tuttle Publishing, debuted April 2010, and won ‘Best Books of 2010’ award from the Chinese American Library Association, and is still in print today. Her work is in permanent collections in the USA and in Europe. Some of her latest work is part of the permanent collection of Sutter Hospital in SF and Kaiser, Petaluma. Stockists of her greeting card and print line: Folk Art Gallery (San Rafael), Abrams Claghorn Gallery (Albany), and Bella Vita Shop (Oakland). She is currently working on a series of picture book biographies about women artists.
