let’s make functional ceramic ware in this fun class!  jenifer will teach you everything you need to know about making your ceramic pieces you can use everyday.  learn how to make ceramic ware via the slab method using provided plaster molds in several different shapes.  you will be able to make at least 2, possibly more, fully functional pieces (circular & oval bowls, triangular & square bowls, platters, serving trays, etc…) we’ll go over terms & techniques in the beginning of class & move on to the demo & then you will make your own pieces.  after we make our pieces, we’ll learn about a variety of ways to decorate your new pieces with a range of colors & design ideas.  jenifer will take your pieces to be fired twice in her kiln & then she will return them within a few weeks time for pick up.  no former ceramic experience is necessary for this class, but if you have some, excellent.

a love for pretty, lovely, handmade items joined with all things vintage makes jenifer a happy lady. she loves to create in just about all ways; she’s a knitter, a canner/jammer/pickler, a collagist, a self proclaimed image taker & maker, a clayer, a draw-er, a painter, a semi-seamstress, a jewelry maker, & a baker, but unfortunately, just not a candlestick maker. jenifer has been making handmade items & selling since 2004, formerly under the name sprout studio.

jenifer has been teaching in various settings for over 15 years. she’s taught at camps, workshops, studios, conferences, & in many classrooms to ages 5 years old to 70+. she often teaches at makeshift society & handcraft studio school in emeryville & numerous other bay area studios & centers. sometimes she teaches out of the comfort of her butchertown home.

she currently is a kindergarten through 8th grade visual arts teacher in downtown san francisco. in 2014, she was awarded the herbst excellence in teaching award. even though she has a southern heart & hails from the southeast originally, she feels lucky to call san francisco her home.
