Binding your own books is a fun, challenging and addictive adventure and it all starts with a few fundamental skills: cutting, folding, covering, and sewing. Join artist e bond in this intimate class setting to learn & practice basic bookbinding skills while making actual books you can take home. You’ll leave with 2-3 blank book forms: a star book ornament, an accordion book and a hand sewn journal (all made by you!).

The class fee covers all the materials you’ll need for three forms. You are more than welcome to bring additional decorated paper or art supplies to make your own decorated paper for book covers or to decorate inside pages.

e bond is an artist, bookbinder, writer and designer currently stationed in Alameda. Under the studio name roughdrAftbooks—created in 2003—she creates artists’ books, handmade journals and mixed media pieces that blur the boundaries of art, craft, design and poetry. e holds an MFA in Book Art & Poetry from Mills College. Her work has been featured at The San Francisco Center for the Book, sold in Anthropologie stores, and published in the Berkeley Poetry Review, & 500 Handmade Books.
