Learn the basics of natural indigo dyeing and shibori resist techniques. We will cover how to set up your own natural indigo vat and how to care for your vat (they can live for years!). Each participant will have their own indigo vat in class that they will take home and continue to use. You will be given 4 cotton 24 x 24 inch squares to practice various surface design techniques and one tote bag to dye and take home. You are welcome to bring your own small materials and garments made from natural fibers (cotton, linen, hemp, wool, silk, etc.) to dye as well.

Due to the length of this workshop we will be taking a short lunch break at 1:00. Please bring a bagged lunch or there are also a few walkable options near the studio.
NOTE: You are welcome to take your indigo vat home with you. Please plan accordingly by driving or carpooling together. Wear clothing you don’t mind getting messy or turning blue.

Kristin is a textile artist based in Oakland, CA. She uses natural dyes and textile arts as a form of collage to make one-of-a-kind quilts. The alchemy of natural indigo is a particularly special artform that she loves to share with others. Check her out on IG @scramblequilts and HERE
