Transformation is an essential part of all cycles. Clothing is no different. What may seem to be the end of a life can bloom into something new.

Whether it’s scraps for patchwork or quilting, old denim jeans, a dress well loved in a fading color or a scarf requesting new life, things we have worn well or come to second hand still hold many possibilities.

In this class we will explore up cycling and personalizing clothing and scraps utilizing stamps and hand painting with mordants. Once mordants are set to the fabric pieces will be dyed in a natural dye vat.

You will leave with the skills and understanding to create a natural dye vat, print with thickened mordants and the enthusiasm to continue lifecycles of textile waste.

Please bring your own pre used pre owned clothing or scrap fabric made from natural fibers to work with (no additional fabric will be provided). Thrift stores, closets, antique fairs, clothing swaps, and estate sales are all great places to find unique pieces.

Please bring any of the following: lightly knit clothing, light chemical colors, off white/white clothing, natural fibers (silk, cotton, hemp, rayon, bamboo, wool), denim

Do not bring the following: dark chemical colored fabrics, blankets or sheets, fabrics with nylon, flannel, tyncel, acetate, coats

*This is an intensive workshop with a 30 minute break for lunch.
