Sandal Making, 10/6
with Stace Fulwiler
Sunday October 6th, 10-4
Limit 8 students
*** Students must signup for this workshop by Tuesday October 1st so Stace can prep accordingly ***
Learn to make yourself a pair of durable, comfortable, custom-to-your-feet leather sandals. No experience is necessary, I will be there to help you through the entire process. All the necessary tools & supplies are provided, as well as many different leather colors to choose from. You will be able to walk out wearing your newly made sandals! In this workshop we will make sandals with leather uppers, leather soles and a stacked leather heel. Making sandals entirely from leather, including the soles and heels, is a traditional way of shoemaking that has been practiced for centuries. And in my opinion, they are also the most comfortable, beautiful and durable!
Note: Sandals can be made in both women + men's sizes and styles.
We will use my pre-made templates and patterns for several different sandal designs that are easy for beginners to master. View photos of past workshops and student-made sandals here.
In the process of making your sandals you will also learn basic leather working techniques and you will become familiar with essential shoemaking tools. You’ll go home with an outline of the sandal making process and a list of local resources and suppliers, allowing you to continue sandal making after the workshop if you so desire. Join us for a day of working with your hands to make something beautiful and utilitarian; sandals you can wear for years to come.
* Due to the length of the workshop we will be taking a lunch break. Please bring a bagged lunch or there are a few walkable options. We also serve light snacks and drinks.
Stace Fulwiler began making sandals 5 years ago and continues to experiment with new designs, materials, and shoemaking methods. When she realized how teachable this craft was she set out to share the skills she learned over years of trial and error. She never tires of seeing the joy students express when they are finished making their first pair of self-made sandals. She teaches workshops in the warmer months throughout California.
